This is secured under provision 29, which covers the Revision of date of consummation of the undertaking. Under proviso 29 the JBCC records occasions where the temporary worker is qualified for an amendment of date handy finish however isn't expected pay and those that the contractual worker is expected pay, on account of the JBCC, the estimation of the agreement or undertaking won't change because of the recorded occasion. All however this is the situation, a portion of the occasions recorded under provision 29. 1 are canvassed in area 6, yet have various results. One such issue is the way the various agreements manage unfavorable climate impacts on works during development period. While the NEC contract expresses the impacts of climate on the fills in as a remuneration occasion under statement 60. 1. 13, where a climate estimation is recorded during a schedule month, before the consummation date for the entire of works and at the spot expressed in the agreement information, the climate occasion must happen less much of the time than once in ten years to be a pay occasion. We will compose a custom article test on Rascal or on the other hand any comparative point explicitly for you Don't WasteYour Time Recruit WRITER Just 13.90/page This could imply that should this happen the contractual worker is expected pay for any expenses caused and a correction of finish time. While the JBCC manages climate in an alternate manner. In provision 29. states the conditions where the temporary worker is qualified for an amendment of the finish date however where the key specialist will not modify the agreement esteem, are the postponements to commonsense culmination brought about by different occasions. One such occasion, expressed in condition 29. 1. 1 is the unfavorable impacts of climate conditions. This infers the temporary worker can not guarantee for change in accordance with contract an incentive because of unfavorable climate conditions like in the NEC contract. This is one less pay occasion that should be planned for under the JBCC understanding. Another distinction in this is under proviso 60. 9 of the NEC contract which covers occasions neither one of the parties could represent or forestall which stops the contract ual worker proceeding with works and isn't one of the expressed pay occasions. While this is shrouded in the JBCC under proviso 29. 1. 4 as an occasion that neither one of the parties could forestall likewise, it just permits the contractual worker a modification of date of fulfillment without a revaluation of the venture. The JBCC perceives a few occasions as requiring remuneration and others not, while the NEC all the occasions are viewed as pay occasions which will require the business to pay the contractual worker more cash. With respect to the correspondence of such occasions happening the NEC gives the contractual worker extensively more opportunity to inform the Project Manager of the chance of the remuneration occasion happening. This is expressed under proviso 61. 3 which gives the contractual worker a limit of about two months to tell the Project Manager of the occasion, neglecting to do so will imply that the temporary worker won't be qualified for change costs or the finishing date. This is just if the Project Manager neglected to advise the temporary worker of the occasion, on the off chance that it was the obligation of the Project Manager to do as such. While in the JBCC likewise takes into consideration a timeframe, which gives the temporary worker more opportunity to guarantee remuneration if any of the occasions happen that are recorded in condition 29. 1 to 29. 3. Under statement 29. 4. 1-3, the agreement expresses that the temporary worker must advise the central specialist inside 20 days of getting mindful of the occasion and should find a way to attempt to maintain a strategic distance from it. There is likewise a multi day time span after which the occasion has happened, inside which the temporary worker must caution its important operator happening or miss out on having the option to guarantee for pay. This is expressed under condition 29. 5 of the agreement. In the two agreements these cases are submitted to the undertaking director, in the NEC and to the essential operator in the JBCC. These cases are explored by the employer’s operators, provision 61. 4 in the NEC, expresses that the venture chief must choose whether the occasion happened because of activities taken by the temporary worker, or has not occurred or isn't relied upon to occur, has no impact upon the characterized cost or fruition date and isn't one of the recorded remuneration occasions, the task supervisor may conclude that the contractual worker has no justification for his guarantee and deny the contract based worker pay. In the event that the undertaking trough concludes that there are reason for the case he tells the temporary worker to present a citations for the case. Should the venture supervisor neglect to answer the temporary worker inside a week or a more extended timeframe that is settled upon by the two gatherings, at that point the case is seen to have been acknowledged by the task chief. The temporary worker is the allowed to submit citations for the case. While in the JBCC the procedure is comparative, and is secured under proviso 29. which gives the foremost specialist 15 working long periods of accepting the case to give or deny the working days guaranteed or revaluation of agreement esteem contingent upon the premise of the case. During which time the foremost specialist will decide the changed date of viable fruition and recognize every condition and significant sub-provision and for every occasion give or deny the temporary workers guarantee. The primary specialist should likewise fl exibly purposes behind the choices the individual has made. In any case, while in the NEC no reaction by the undertaking supervisor, the case is considered to have been acknowledged, in the JBCC it is accepted that the case has been dismissed. This is satisfied under proviso 29. 8, which gives certain spread to the business ought to there be a setback and the primary specialist can't answer the temporary worker, not at all like in the NEC. Fundamentally the JBCC contract is the better agreement on dealing with the expense of the undertaking alongside time limitations. The agreement unmistakably expresses the occasions which on the off chance that they do happen, will require correction of the date of reasonable consummation and furthermore which occasions will require both an amendment of the date and revaluation of the venture. While under the NEC contract the occasions recorded are occasions that would all be able to be asserted for cash by the contractual worker, which may prompt the business saving a more prominent spending plan for possibilities in view of the quantity of things recorded that can be guaranteed as a pay occasion. The better agreement that would facilitate the client’s stresses over financial plan and time imperatives is the JBCC head understanding. References 1. Copernicus Essays - Copernican Revolution, Ancient Greek Astronomy

Copernicus Essays - Copernican Revolution, Ancient Greek Astronomy Copernicus Nicolas Copernicus Nicolas Copernicus 1473-1543 Material science February 8, 2000 Nicolas Copernicus Nicolas Copernicus 1473-1543 Copernicus was conceived in Poland in 1473, he began his instruction at Cracow University. There he examined arithmetic and optics. From here he went to Italy, where he was delegated as a standard in the house of prayer of Frauenburg, where he consumed an agreeable scholastic time on earth studding. Copernicus had some little side interests while at the church building, he painted, and every now and again made an interpretation of Greek verse into Latin. One other leisure activity that simply wasn't sufficiently little to be known as a side interest to the greater part of us was cosmology. He made examinations unobtrusively and alone, with no assistance. He saw from a turret on a defensive divider around a house of prayer, he additionally looked with his unaided eye as opposed to with a telescope. He was one of the originators of present day cosmology. Copernicus kicked the bucket in 1543 of a cerebral discharge. In 1530 just before Copernicus kicked the bucket he figured out how to distributed his work, De Revolutionibus. Which said that the earth pivoted on its hub once every day and went around the sun once yearly. This may no stable dubious yet right now the congregation and its supporters had confidence in the Ptolemiac hypothesis, which expressed that the universe was a shut space limited by a round envelope past which there was nothing. (Landry 1999) Copernicuss works conflicted with the congregation, and most logical convictions. This might be one motivation behind why Copernicus didnt distribute his work until his deathbed. Another explanation might be that Copernicus was an enormous fussbudget, and ceaselessly revamp his works again and again to get them right. (Field 1995) So you can perceive any reason why Copernicus wasnt in any large race to have the world think about his hypothesis. On one hand he would cause a Nicolas Copernicus tramoundous mix in the congregation, and all established researchers. He wouldve probably have been terminated from the agreeable church position he had for a long time, and couldve given him a terrible name. On the off chance that it hadnt been for George Rheticus, a 25-year-old German science educator Copernicuss may have never publiched his work. (Field 1995) Rheticus remained with Copernicus for a long time, and persuaded him to discharge his work. His work the Copernicus' heliostatic cosmology included giving a few unmistakable movements to the Earth. It was thusly viewed as impossible by far most of his peers, and by most cosmologists and common thinkers of succeeding ages before the center of the seventeenth century. Its lone protectors included Johannes Kepler (1571 - 1630) and Galileo Galilei (1564-1642). Solid hypothetical supporting for the Copernican hypothesis was given by Newton's hypothesis of widespread attractive energy (1687). (Field 1995) So Copernicuss entire contention expressed that the planets and the Earth were in circle around the sun, and the moon was in circle around the Earth. This is known as the The Heliocentric System: Nicolas Copernicus All in all Copernicus said that the Sun was the focal point of the universe, and conflicted with all known information, religion, and lessons. He took every one of his perceptions with the unaided eye and with no assistance. Many dismissed his book and his hypothesis, which conflicted with everything that the congregation had confidence in. Nonetheless in the event that it wasnt for Copernicus, present day stargazing would have never made advances the extent that it needs to today. Copernicuss difficult work and quality is the reason he is one of the most significant authors of present day stargazing. Book index Field, J. V. (1995 August). Landing page. [Online]. Discipline and Punishment Free Essays

The words discipline and punishment can often be used to mean the same thing. But they are very different from each other. To me discipline is a means of helping a child to learn how to act when they are in public as well as when the parent is not around; for example whether it be at school, their grandparents house, or when being babysat a child should always act as if their parents are there which means; being respectful, listening as well as doing what you are told. We will write a custom essay sample on Discipline and Punishment or any similar topic only for you Order Now I feel like discipline should never stray away from the fact the you are trying to focus on the positive aspects and self esteem of the developing child. The reason for discipline is to help a child learn how to control their behavior as well as their emotions and the child should be reassured with firm reminders. Punishment is also another form discipline. There are several methods to physical punishment which would including spanking, push-ups, squatting against a wall, or even hitting. There are psychological punishments such as taking away privileges, extra chores, writing sentences, or sending a child to their room. The reason for punishments is to discourage unacceptable behavior. To most people discipline and punishment can be viewed as the same, but there are certain methods to discipline and punishment that are different. Punishment and discipline methods both have some similarities that attempt to correct the negative behavior at hand. Punishment removes the accountability for the misbehavior from the child. Punishment is not really teaching a child what they did is wrong and what to right the next time. Punishment is ultimately telling the child if they do something wrong then they will be punished whether it be push ups, extra chores, or TV. taken away. Children need to learn that they need to take accountability for their own actions to be able to exercise self-control so that they can be successful as well respected adults. The objective of punishment is to stop a child from misbehaving. However, punishment usually only stops the behavior for that short period of time the punishment is given. Punishment does not necessarily not teach a child how to not do the same behavior again in the future. Severe punishments can cause physical and emotional damage that could last throughout a child’s life. Harsh punishments can also lead to abuse which could follow on to their children as well. Another difference between discipline and punishment is that punishment only works in the present. If a child is punished by being spanked or screamed at, they will learn not to misbehave when someone can see what they are doing but, they are not learning how to not misbehave in the future. Discipline is designed to teach a child how to exercise self-control and how to not repeat the misbehavior in the future. For example if the child is with a group of friends who decided to do drugs, that child has been taught through the discipline and guidance of their parents that drugs are bad. So as a result the child has enough self-control and discipline to know not to follow in their friends footsteps. Discipline and punishment are different in that discipline is an on going learning process that allows parents to teach their child self-control, respect, and the importance of acceptable behavior and non-acceptable behavior. In life a child is going to become an adult and be faced with obstacles and barriers; that will test their morals and values that their parents instilled in them. Parents have a responsibility to communicate their expectations to their child in a manner that the child will understand. Which also means knowing what is acceptable behavior and what is not acceptable behavior. There are many types of discipline, and punishment is one of them. Punishment can work in the moment, but as a parent it is their job to commit to a discipline process that is ongoing throughout their child’s development to truly change the behaviors in a child Discipline and Punishment How to cite Discipline and Punishment, Papers

Barbara Mason Essays - Cognitive Disorders, Learning Disabilities

Barbara Mason Human Growth and Development Anne Brooks Lesson 11:Ages 65 on up: Late Adulthood The Results of Aging THEORIES OF WHY WE AGE Since research into aging is not guided by any one universally accepted theory, genetic, cellular, and physiological studies have yielded several hypotheses. Genetics The most popular genetic theory, the Error Theory, assumes that aging is the result of the accumulation of random genetic damage, or from small errors in the flow of genetic information. The damage or errors would reduce or prevent proper cell function. Cellular The best known theory of aging in cellular research is called the Hayflick Effect, which is named after the American microbiologist Leonard Hayflick. He found that certain human cells could only divide a limited number of times before they die. This may suggest that aging is programmed into cells. This could also account for the differences in the life spans of different animal species, and the differences in the life spans between the sexes within the same species. Physiological These theories focus on organ systems and their interrelationships. One area currently being investigated is the immune system. As we age the immune system gradually loses its capacity to fight off infections and other invaders. As a result, antibodies are produced that cannot tell the difference between friendly cells and enemy cells. Most experts now believe that aging represents many phenomena working together (Miller and Keane 97). PHYSICAL CHANGES The physical changes that accompany aging are not necessarily incapacitating, even though they may be discomforting or limiting. The body has less strength and endurance as it ages. The rate of energy production in the body cells is gradually lowered so that people tire more easily and are more sensitive to weather changes. Sexual desire and ability lower although they never entirely end for either sex. The capacity to bear children ends in women with menopause, which is the time when the ovaries stop functioning, causing the menstrual cycle to stop. Men retain their reproductive function into the late years. The use of eyeglasses may become necessary, even if they were not necessary earlier in life. Old people can hear low tones fairly well, but their ability to hear high tones decreases. The capacity of tissue and bone to repair itself is slowed, as is cellular growth and division. Bones become brittle and skin loses its thickness and elasticity, causing wrinkles. As brain cells die some capacity for memorization and learning is lost. Breathing becomes difficult and hardening arteries circulation to worsen and blood pressure to rise. Joints lose their mobility and deteriorate from constant wear and pressure. Finally, the liver filters toxins from the blood less efficiently (Microsoft Encarta Aging). These are not all of the changes to the body that are brought about by aging, but these are the major ones. There is hope in modern medicine, though. Through the use of new technologies and drugs some of these changes can be slowed or prevented. System Results of Aging Contributing Factors SKIN -loses thickness and elasticity (wrinkles appear) -bruises more easily as blood vessels near surface weakens -Process accelerated by smoking, -excessive exposure to sun. BRAIN/NERVOUS SYSTEM -loses some capacity for memorization and learning as cells die -becomes slower to respond to stimuli (reflexes dull) -Process accelerated by overuse of alcohol and other drugs, repeated blows to the head. SENSES -becomes less sharp with the loss of nerve cells -Process accelerated by smoking, -repeated exposure to loud noise. LUNGS -becomes less effective as elasticity decreases -Process accelerated by smoking, -poor air quality, insufficient exercise. HEART -pumps less efficiently, making exercise more difficult -Process accelerated by overuse of alcohol and tobacco, poor eating habits. CIRCULATION -worsens and blood pressure rises, as arteries harden -Process accelerated by insufficient exercise, smoking, poor eating habits. JOINTS -lose mobility (knee, hip) and deteriorate from constant wear and pressure (disappearance of cartilage between vertebrae results in old age shrinking) -Process accelerated by injury, obesity. MUSCLES -lose bulk and strength -Process accelerated by insufficient exercise, starvation. LIVER -filters toxins from blood less efficiently -Process accelerated by alcohol abuse, viral infection. Microsoft Encarta. Aging. MENTAL CHANGES Along with the loss of the ability of memorization and learning due to brain cells dying (Microsoft Encarta Aging); elderly people can be affected by Alzheimer's Disease. This disease is a progressive degenerative disease of the brain, now considered to be a leading cause of dementia among the old. It affects an estimated 2.5 to 3 million people in the U.S. The incidence of this disease increases with advancing age, but there is no evidence that it is caused by the aging process. The average life expectancy of a person with Alzheimer's is five to ten years.

Essay Sample on Emancipation Research on the Life Without Parents

Essay Sample on Emancipation Research on the Life Without Parents Free example essay on Emancipation For months, Jodie had waited in anticipation for New York State University to send their response as to whether or not she had gotten accepted into the college. Her goal was to become a famous movie director after she had gotten a degree in Film Production from NYU, which was located in one of the most happening cities in the country. Her parents weren’t too fond of this idea, and looked down upon her decision to attend the school. They didn’t go to college, so they decided that they wouldn’t allow her to go either. Against her parent’s will, she secretly applied to the university anyway. Three months later, a large letter with the initials â€Å"NYU Admissions Department† which graced the smooth envelope addressed to Jodie arrived in the mail. Excitedly, she opened it up and read â€Å"Congratulations, you have been accepted!† She jumped for joy, until her parents found out, and refused to let her travel 2 thousand miles to attend the univer sity. Well, if you dont like my decisions, Ill just move out! is what Jodie screamed at the top of her voice while storming up the stairs to her room in tears. She then though, â€Å"Hey, why don’t I just leave anyway? It can’t be too hard to live on my own†¦Ã¢â‚¬ Quite often in the United States, teenagers have decided to do just that, and have gained the legal power to make their own financial and life decisions. But its not easy, and the process of becoming legally independent before youre 18 can be lengthy and difficult. Divorcing your parents, as some refer to it, doesnt happen just because youre tired of being yelled at, and it is not a process to be taken lightly. Becoming emancipated means that it is necessary to completely support yourself financially, and to also have the right to make decisions which would normally need parental consent. To be emancipated by the court, you must be at least 16 years old. You must also meet one of the following conditions: You must be married, be in the U.S. armed forces, must be living apart from your parents or guardian and be managing your own money, or the court must decide that emancipation is in the best interests of you, or your parents. Most people wonder if emancipation is ethical or not. If a parent can’t divorce their child, how can a child divorce their parent? Normally, a parent has legal power over a minor until he or she reaches the age of 18. Legal dependence is defined by a California law (Code 19-7-1) as remaining under the control of ones parents, who are entitled to the minors services and the proceeds of their labor. In other words, until youre 18, your parents legally have control over you and any money you may earn. On the contrary, there are options that can be undertaken to disregard those legalities. According to many laws in the United States, there are three ways that a parents rights can be given up: adoption, mistreatment of the child, or the marriage of the child. In adoption parents can give up their rights or they can be taken away by the state, says Ann Deibel, a consultant with the Office of Adoption in the Department of Human Resources (DHR). A parent can give her child to DHR, a licensed adoption agency, or to another adult through the Superior Court. Parental power can also be lost because of neglect or abuse such as a child often being left home alone or in the neighborhood for long periods without supervision. Likewise, if the child is frequently hungry, dressed inadequately for the weather, absent from school frequently, bruised or has other marks of physical violence, withdrawn or overly aggressive, and not receiving needed medical attention Deibel says although the department is responsible for trying to reunify the family, they can petition to terminate the parents rights in juvenile court. To most, it seems fair for a child to have a say as to whether or not he or she wants to leave from their household, but in instances like this, the state would take the liberty to remove the child right away. The third way a parents rights can be relinquished is through marriage of the teen. The Georgia Code for instance, states that Parental power shall be lost by: Consent to the marriage of the child, who thus assumes inconsistent responsibilities. In other words, when teens get permission to marry, they become legally independent. Some states, such as Florida make no legal provisions for teenagers who simply dont want to live at home anymore. What about all the teens who say, I cant wait to get out of this house!? What separates these cases from those in which emancipation is a logical next step such as the examples above? According to Chief Judge of the Fulton County Juvenile Court, Sanford Jones, Its very fact-specific. There is no set qualification as to who can become emancipated I had one case with a young woman whod been living on her own, not knowing where her parents were, and that made sense for her. But Ive had kids come in just saying, I dont like answering to my parents; I want to get emancipated, and that doesnt mean as much. A young person who is at least 14 years old may petition the Superior Court of the county in which he or she lives. The petitioner must state that she is willingly living apart from her parents with their permission and is supporting herself financially in a legal manner. The court will notify your parents or guardian and the district attorney or your probation officer if you are on probation. The court will then decide whether granting you emancipation is in your best interests. If the court declares you emancipated, your DMV identification will show that you are ema ncipated, so people can treat you as an adult when you do things like apply for a job or enroll in college. The court may later set aside your emancipation, if it finds that it didn’t know important facts when it granted it, or if you later cannot support yourself financially and become dependent upon public assistance. As for how many teenagers undertake these proceedings, Jones says the cases are few and far between, I hear of maybe two or three a year, he says, so probably less than a dozen happen annually statewide. It isnt frequent at all. Judge Jones also showed negativity towards the legal process You dont have the right at your age to choose where you want to live, or where you go to school. You shouldn’t have the right to chose to get rid of your parents. Emancipation began in the 1981 Northern District of Georgia District Court Case Street vs. Cobb County School District, a 17-year-old unmarried student at South Cobb High School petitioned to be recognized as legally independent of her parents. She lived on her own and wanted to attend school in the district in which she lived, as opposed to the one in which her parents lived. The courts eventually ruled that the young woman was legally independent of her parents, and legally recognized as emancipated. This ruling took into account that while the girls parents wished her to return home, she had no intention of doing so and had fully supported herself for four months. She was not married, but her mother said that although she wanted her daughter to return home, she would consent to her marrying her boyfriend. The court determined that to recognize a married minor as emancipated, while requiring a single person to remain in their parents care until the age of 18, was unreasonable. This case set a precedent for unmarried minors to be legally independent of their parents in Georgia. These days, some minors try to live away from their parents through more unofficial means. One approach some teens take is to run away from home. But, running away is a juvenile legal offense. You are legally not emancipated if you run away, but you technically are if you can support yourself, clarifies Judge Jones, but the average runaway is not able to support themselves and, therefore, are not really emancipated. If a person under the age of 17 runs away from home, parents can issue a warrant. Then, the police can pick up the teen and return him or her to the parents, or to the Department of Family and Children Services. If there is no warrant, the teen can not be picked up as a runaway but can be held on another violation, like curfew. Emancipated minors are responsible for themselves when it comes to everything, once the final law is put into place. Emancipation may seem glamorous, but life without parents is not all partying and eating what you want, there are negatives and positives just like there are for most decisions that are made. Life with out parents can be a very positive experience if you have the ability and self worth to take charge of your life. Some optimistic advantages of being emancipated are as follows. A teenager may get their own place to live, but he or she will be responsible for paying the rent and any other costs. Also, he or she may get medical care without parental consent. A teen can sign contracts in their own name and are responsible for living up to the contract. It is possible to sue other people, and also be sued by others. A teen would no longer under the control of his or her parents, which means that the parents will have no obligation to support the teen financially, or provide any food, clothing, or shelter. Buying and selling property is possible for an emancipated child. Also, obtaining a drivers license or marriage license or joining the armed services without your parents’ permission is possible as well. Lastly, you may enroll in a school or college of your choice with out asking your parents. Where there is a positive approach to a situation, there is also a negative approach as well. Emancipation is a major decision that can help a mature teenager who is getting little help from his or her parents to live a more independent life. But emancipation can also cause hard feelings within a family. It is sometimes possible for a teenager to get the relief and help that he or she needs without taking this step. For example: If a teen needs some relief from family problems, he or she might be able to stay with a friend or in a youth shelter for awhile. Most youth shelters will need parents permission to let a child stay overnight. In a case where the parents have forced the teenager to leave, or will not let he or she return, or if it would be dangerous for he or she to return, that teen may be eligible for financial help from that state’s Department of Social Services (DSS) even if you are not emancipated. You may be able to get help from the Department of Children and Fa milies until you turn 18, including help in finding shelter. Justin Strickland, an 18-year-old who attends West Lake High School in Southern California, has been emancipated since August, at which time he was 17. Justin says his reasons for leaving home were complicated and not something I want to explain in full.† Justin’s life is nothing if not difficult these days. I have a boring social life. I might go see my friends if I have time. I really dont go to parties, Justin says. He makes it clear that living on his own is not easy, frankly describing his daily routine: I get up at about 5 a.m, go to class until 1, and from there I go to work from 2 to 5 p.m. and come home and do homework. I cook and there are dishes to wash and laundry to do. And then around 11:30 or 12 p.m., its time for bed so that I can wake up in the morning. Could you do everything Justin does? Being emancipated means you must work for yourself, provide substantial health care as well as finish your education. Justin says about his schoolwork, I dont think its affected mine. But then he goes on to say, There are times when I have to settle for a B because I dont have the time to devote it to the subject. I dont live as comfortably as I did when I lived at home. There is no one to take care of me when Im sick; theres no one to pick me up when it rains, and I have to walk a mile to my bus and back, says Justin. These difficulties are compounded by the lack of emotional support that most teenagers receive from their families. You really depend on the emotional support from friends, he explains, on dealing with being independent. The support network is really important. In my opinion, I think that emancipation is a good idea for the most part. To help the process run more smoothly, I think that there should be certain guidelines that should be made clearer to teenagers considering this type of legal action. First of all, I suggest that there should be some sort of trial run for the teen before he or she is legally emancipated. That person should have six months or so to show that he or she is responsible financially, by having a stable, profitable job. This will be able to show whether that person can afford a proper home, and the necessities that are needed daily, such as food and clothing. Also, education should be mandatory. That teen should be able to show proof that he or she had been in some sort of education program. Likewise, good grades, and progress should be recorded, and be mandatory. If these requirements are met consistently without parental involvement, emancipation should take progress legally. A child who can take care of these resp onsibilities for that amount of time shouldn’t have a hard time performing that same sort of routine for the rest of his or her life. On the contrary, if these requirements are not met, and the child can not support his or herself, than obviously, legal action should not take place. I think it is important for the teenager to prove himself before legal action takes place. In conclusion, I feel that emancipation will become more popular as today’s society becomes more independent. Kids are becoming more and more responsible because of their sources of education, and from the problems that arise in the household. Sometimes in broken homes, children are forced to take responsibility for siblings and for parents, so why not for themselves legally? Some may say that emancipation is not ethical, or logical, but to the teenager himself, it is quite the contrary. It can be for many good causes, such as in Jodie’s case, where now, she will be able to attend an extraordinary college and earn a very respectful degree without her parents holding her back.

Price Elasticity Of Demand Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Price Elasticity Of Demand - Term Paper Example There are two main reasons why we use percentages instead of absolute amounts. They are;  Ã¢â‚¬ ¢ If absolute changes are used, the choice of units will be arbitrary affect the impression of the consumers’ responsiveness. (Lipsey R.G and Christal K.A2007pp66) For example, if the price of cereals changes from $10 to $9 and the quantity demanded changed from 60 to 100 packets. The coefficient of price elasticity of demand will be 40. It will be seen that consumers are very sensitive to price change and the demand will be elastic.   But if the monetary units are changed from dollars to pennies we see that change of 100 pennies causes a change of 40 packets of cereals.   This will falsely make people believe that demand is inelastic. To eliminate this problem percentage changes are used. (Lipsey R.G and Christal K.A2007pp66)  Ã¢â‚¬ ¢ By using percentage, consumers’ responsiveness to price changes of different products can be easily compared. For example, if two prod ucts are taken i.e. cereals and computers. It is easier to compare the effects on quantity demanded of $1 increase in the price of a $300 computer and $1 dollar increase in the price of $1 soft drink.  Various interpretations of price elasticity of demand coefficient  Ã¢â‚¬ ¢ When Ed>1, the demand is said to be elastic. This occurs when a specific change in price results in a larger percentage change in quantity demanded.(Mankiw N.G,1998p93) Graphically it can be illustrated as follows;

Could the leaders of Europe have prevented the Holocaust Essay

Could the leaders of Europe have prevented the Holocaust - Essay Example berg Law of 1935, the violent riots against Jewish businesses on ‘Kristallnacht’ in 1938, the confinement of Jews to Ghettoes in 1940, their killing in concentration and labor camps in 1941 and culminated in their whole scale massacre in the extermination camps from 1942. They were transported by railroads and eliminated in gas chambers in Auschwitz, Treblinka, Dachau, Bergen-Belsen, Buchenwald and Maulthausen.1 Approximately six million Jews lost their lives in the Holocaust, which was described by Winston Churchill as â€Å"the greatest and most terrible crime ever committed in the whole history of the world.†2 Hitler’s rabid anti-Semitism was the prime instigator of the Holocaust, but it was also perpetrated by the Western Allies policy of appeasement, which was motivated by self-interest. Anti-Semitism has long been a part of human history and can be considered a cultural phenomenon, prevalent in Europe and America as in the rest of the world. It can be attributed to many factors: jealousy of the economic prosperity of the Jews, resentment of their claims of being the ‘chosen people,’ their vilification as the killers of Christ and 2racism. They have been used as convenient scapegoats for disasters such as The Black Death, subjected to massacres during the Crusades and the Spanish Inquisition and to pogroms in Russia and Poland. Hitler advocated world dominion by the pure Aryan races through the elimination of ‘inferior races,’ such as the Slavs, Gypsies and particularly the Jews. He set about this genocide with military precision, aided by the reluctance of Western Europe and America to take decisive measures to stop this horrendous crime against humanity. Britain and France unabashedly followed a policy of appeasement towards Nazi Germany due to several factors, which were related to their perceived self-interest. World War 1 (1914 – 1918), with its’ 7 million European casualties, had a deep impact on public opinion, particularly in

The following sentence is an example of Engfish: â€Å"The Nixon years are perhaps the most well remembered and least forgotten in the eyes of the American people. † I chose this example because it was a sentence that I actually wrote for a history paper. After learning what Engfish was, I was a bit surprised to find this type of writing in my OWN papers! Not only did I state that the Nixon years were the â€Å"most† well remembered, I went on to further expound on the fact that they were also the â€Å"least† forgotten.Of course, it goes without saying that if something is the most remembered, it is also the least forgotten, but without my own voice yet discovered, and not knowing what my teacher â€Å"wanted† or â€Å"was looking for†, I wrote like this – to fill space and sound a bit more formal. Looking at it now, it seems funny. I could have simply written, â€Å"no one will ever forget the Nixon years†. Let’s not forget â €Å"in the eyes of the American people†.First of all, people don’t remember things in their eyes, and more than the American people will remember the Nixon years. If I wanted to restrict the subject, I could have written, â€Å"America will never forget the Nixon years. † Fabulous Reality: The fenced-in school yard echoed of bouncing basketballs, jump rope chants, creaky swing chains and the clanging of eager children pushing and pulling on the fence. At the front of the one story building was a sign that said â€Å"Parent Teacher Conferences Oct. 27-29 and Fall Festival October 30†.On the west side of the drab brick building that faced the stone and asphalt playground, there were some cracked windows taped with duct tape on the outside, while children’s art work and colorful curtains decorated the interior. The bricks of the medium sized building were decorated with black scribbles from spray paint cans. Teens – alumnus of the building â₠¬â€œ stating that they had been there, whom they loved, and what teachers they hated. Amid the scribbles arose a large yellow smiley face, perfectly round with oval eyes and a broad black smile. There was a bloody bullet hole in its head.Metaphor/simile 1: My significant other is better than the finest waiter at the finest restaurant. He treats my feelings as if they were the most valuable porcelain dishes, with soft gloves, and quick and light attention. He lingers in my neck to catch my scent as would a wine lover with a bottle of newly opened wine. He has an artist’s eye for my eyes, staring at them and studying them to find what lies beneath. I feel like a million bucks and he is the millionaire, keeping close tabs on me, but letting me grow and work into something more as he both flaunts and protects me.Metaphor/simile 2: The child’s coos are sweeter than the sweetest song ever composed or heard. Her eyes are more beautiful than the reflection off of the deep blue water when it catches the sun on its brightest days. Her smile is as sincere as her parent’s love for her. Her cries are only reflections of need, not sadness. When others are around her, her joy is spread as easily as warm butter on warm bread. Her beauty is as evident as is her existence. This tiny little baby girl brings more warmth and joy than a Christmas day fire, yet she does not even know it.

Ordering this Desktop PC through the internet at eBay. com or PCExpress. com would come out cheaper than buying it here in the Philippines. Its price is $ 1850. 00 which leaves me with a total of $150. 00. The excess money I could use for extra accessories for the computer like other software’s may it be for leisure or education. III. Systems Ruled Out Obviously Workstations, Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), Mainframes, Mini-Computers and Super Computers were out of the question while choosing my preferred computer system. I don’t need a very powerful PC that is used for Computer Aided Design (CAD) nor Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM). I don’t need a computer that would serve up to 70 users because most probably the maximum users that will be using my computer would be 3. Definitely minicomputers are out of my list for one thing they’re phased out. I don’t need a computer that would serve hundred of users at a time; I’m only a student and not a business so mainframes are crossed out of my list too. Besides mainframes are too complicated to handle as it is. Super computers on the other hand are used by businesses for task demanding extreme computing power especially in establishments for science like meteorology and finding out more on enzymes. PDA’s are too small plus it’s not practical for a student like me to buy a PDA just to set my schedule straight in school and take notes. I need a computer that would aid me in my studies just like a Micro computer. Micro computers hold floppy disk drives and CD-ROM drive or even a DVD drive that would help me in storing data need for my classes, reports and papers. It’s the most practical thing to get as of now because if I think of leaving within three years for the UK technology improves quickly and by then if ever I buy a laptop it would be phased out and it would be harder to up grade not like a desktop pc. IV. Conclusion I therefore conclude that at this time, as a student, it would be more practical for me to buy a Desktop PC that would help me in school work and at the same time entertain me for my free time. Laptops are doubled the price of a Desktop PC and is harder to upgrade unlike a Desktop PC. Usually Laptops are used by professionals who are on the go and need computers most of the time to make use of their time.
